Guys, spinning is magic. You take this fluff, and you dream what it can be, and you apply some physics to it, mix in a bit of artistry and patience, and at the end of all that — you get new yarn. Not just any yarn, but unique yarn designed just for your purpose. And since getting new yarn is kind of the best thing ever, it’s a win all around.
This lovely, plush skein is about 180 yards of worsted/aran-weight 4-ply 100% Merino wool made from Malabrigo Nube in the Aguas colorway.
I split the braid into four 1 oz. sections and spun each on its own bobbin. The bobbins had been about equal in weight but I ran out of one of them during plying.
So I took the heaviest of the three remaining bobbins and wound the single off onto my hand so I could Andean-ply it in with the other two bobbins. This allowed me to continue making a 4-ply from only three singles. I had just a yard or two of leftover single at the end so it worked out nicely.
After a bath and a thwack, I hung the skein out in the sun to dry. It plumped up so perfectly and if I’m being completely honest, I can’t stop petting it.
I am smitten and so eager to cast this on, it’s destined to be a hat of some sort. In conclusion, spinning is magic and I love it. 🙂 What do you love about spinning, or yarn?

Ah, it’s wonderful!!! I’ve often used the end of one single to finish out the plying, but have not found the perfect way to wind it off. I’ve tried a center pull ball, and a butterfly, so I’m glad you mentioned andean plying. Guess I’ll go check it out!

I like spinning for the same reason. I am a newbie so my yarn comes out thick and thin, but I still love it. I tried Andean plying last night with the yarn I spun and I guess I did it wrong. I ended up with a big knot. Thankfully I was able to get it untangled and only threw a very small piece away.
